Barry & Middleville State Game Areas
1.      Why is this location important?  The two state game areas provide open space for wildlife.  During the various hunting seasons the game areas attract hunters from across Michigan as well as hunters from out-of-state.  The preserved areas ensure the rural nature of the area.  Year-round attractions are open to the general public (hunting and fishing licenses required and caution must be exercised at all times).
2.      How do the resources shown in this photo help to tell the Byway’s story?  A key part of the Byway is the abundance of undeveloped areas and natural beauty.  The game areas ensure that these areas will remain undeveloped.
3.      How is this resource linked to the other resources along the Byway?  The game areas link seamlessly with the Yankee Springs Recreation Area, the area’s trail system, and the natural features such as the Thornapple River, several lakes and streams, forested areas, and the area’s rolling topography.
4.      How is this resource linked to the roadway?  The roadway provides access to the game areas and the game areas insure less development, which maintains the rural character of the roadway.
5.      Has this resource been recognized by any regional or national program or organization?  NA
6.      Who owns this resource?  Is the owner involved in the Byway Committee or the development of the Byway Management Strategy?  Owned by the State of Michigan.  State officials involved with the games areas serve on the Steering Committee.
